Frequently Asked Questions

What genres does FretShed support?

Rock, blues, jazz, metal, and funk. Each genre has its own vocabulary. The phrasing, the note choices, the feel. More genres are coming.

Does FretShed include a tuner?

Yes. The tuner plays a clean digital tone at the correct pitch and octave for each string, then pulses it until you move on. No needle, no meter. You tune by listening. Standard, flat standard, drop D, DADGAD, and other common tunings are all there.

Is there a metronome?

Yes. Adjustable tempo and time signature. The basics, done well.

Can I record myself playing?

Yes. The recorder captures audio straight to your library. Switch tabs, lock the screen, take a phone call. The recording keeps going. Stop it from the Lock Screen or the Dynamic Island when you're done. Unplug your headphones and it stops and saves automatically.

I have an offer code. How do I redeem it?

On iPhone or iPad, open the FretShed paywall and tap the redeem option. Apple's offer code sheet will appear. Enter the code and follow the prompts. Offer codes are an iPhone and iPad feature for now.

How does looping work?

Flip the loop switch in the player to turn it on. Then drag the left and right markers to bracket the phrase you want to work on. FretShed loops that section on repeat so you can sit with it until your ear locks in. Flip the switch again when you are done.

Can I slow down a solo without changing the pitch?

Yes. Drop the playback speed to as low as 50% and the pitch stays exactly where it is. Work a phrase slowly until your hands know it, then push the speed up until it's at tempo.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID. Go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad, select FretShed, and cancel from there. You keep access until the end of the current billing period.

How do I request a refund?

Refunds go through Apple. Head to reportaproblem.apple.com, find your FretShed purchase, and submit a request from there.

Are the solos truly unique each time?

Every solo is generated fresh. You will not hear the same thing twice. That is the point. Your ear needs unfamiliar material to grow. Familiar material just confirms what you already know.

Is FretShed available on Mac?

iPhone and iPad now. Mac is coming.

Is there a limit on how many solos I can generate?

Yes. You can generate up to 80 solos in any 30-day period. There is no fixed window or reset date. Each generation counts for 30 days from when it was made, then drops off. If you hit the limit, you get generations back as older ones age past 30 days. Failed generations do not count. For the full details, see the Fair Use Policy in our Terms of Service.

Does FretShed require an internet connection?

Yes, to generate a solo. The processing happens on our servers. Once it is downloaded to your device, you can practice with it offline.
