Privacy Policy

FretShed  ·  Last updated: July 26, 2026

FretShed ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices when you use the FretShed app on iOS and macOS.

The data controller for the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) is Decibel Technologies Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14901837), with its registered office at 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to operate the app and improve the experience.

  • Subscription & purchase information. When you subscribe to FretShed Pro, Apple processes your payment. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status. RevenueCat receives a randomised device identifier and your subscription entitlement. It does not receive your name, email, or payment details.
  • Usage analytics. We use Mixpanel to collect anonymous usage events (e.g. which features are used, how often solos are generated). This data is aggregated and is not linked to your identity. Mixpanel derives an approximate, city-level location from the IP address of analytics requests. FretShed never accesses your device's precise location (GPS), and the app does not request any location permission.
  • Device information. Analytics and crash reporting tools may collect standard device information such as device model, operating system version, and app version. This is used solely to understand how the app performs across different devices.

FretShed does not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information directly.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To verify and manage your FretShed Pro subscription
  • To understand how the app is used and improve its features
  • To diagnose crashes and technical issues

We do not sell your information to third parties. We do not use your information for advertising purposes.

3. Crash Reports & Diagnostics

FretShed uses crash reporting so we can find and fix defects. We use Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) on macOS and New Relic on iOS. When the app crashes or misbehaves, a report is sent containing the crash or error details along with technical context such as device model, operating system version, and app version. These reports are not linked to your identity and are not used for advertising.

4. Generated Content

When you generate a solo, a request containing your chosen parameters (genre, key, tempo, speed) is sent to our backend server for processing. No personally identifiable information is included in this request. Generated audio is returned to your device and stored locally. We do not retain your generated audio on our servers.

5. iCloud Sync

Your saved-solo library, along with its settings such as stars and loop points, syncs across your devices through your private iCloud (CloudKit) database. This data belongs to your Apple Account and is stored by Apple; we cannot access it. You can turn sync off at any time by disabling iCloud for FretShed in your device's system settings.

6. Third-Party Services

FretShed uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

  • RevenueCat – subscription management
  • Mixpanel – anonymous usage analytics
  • Sentry – crash reporting on macOS
  • New Relic – crash reporting and diagnostics on iOS
  • Apple – payment processing, App Store, and iCloud sync

7. Data Retention

Generated solos are stored locally on your device. You can delete them at any time within the app. If you have iCloud sync enabled, your saved-solo library is also stored in your private iCloud database, under your Apple Account. Analytics data is retained by Mixpanel in accordance with their data retention policy. Crash and diagnostic reports are retained by Sentry and New Relic in accordance with their data retention policies. Subscription data is retained by RevenueCat for as long as your subscription is active and for a reasonable period thereafter.

8. Children's Privacy

FretShed is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

9. Your Rights

If you are located in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, you have rights under the UK GDPR and applicable data protection laws in respect of any personal data held about you, including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing of, object to processing of, and port your personal data. Since FretShed does not collect personal data directly, most requests should be directed to the relevant third-party services listed above. For any privacy-related concerns, you can contact us at the address below.

If you believe we have not handled your personal data in line with the law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, or with the data protection authority in your country of residence.

10. Cookies

This website does not set cookies and does not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking technologies. The site is served as static content and does not collect information about visitors.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
